I have indirectly received some criticism on my previous post about Christians celebrating Halloween. Although that person apparently chose not to voice their opinion on this blog I would like to clarify my position on the matter.
If you are Christian (by Christian I mean, Baptist, Catholic or any other person who believes in a Dogma religion) and you celebrate Halloween in any way you are NOT doing the right thing. Halloween is a Pagan holiday and flies in the face of everything that Christianity stands for and I am offended as a practicing Pagan that any Christian would degrade our most sacred holiday by turning it into some corporate bullshit. We Pagans can’t help that you choose to commercialize Christmas by spending billions in trivial non-important Christmas gifts and non secular decoration but seriously, if you think Paganism is so evil then why in the hell would you want any part of our Holidays.
Unfortunately for Christians the leaders in the Catholic Church chose not to overlap any Christian holidays with Halloween so there is not legitimate reason to have any celebration. Well there is “all souls day” but hardly a cause to dress your kids up, give them candy and party. So either create some bogus holiday that’s loosely related to ours (like Easter and Christmas) or leave our holidays alone!
So dress your children up, give out candy (thus contributing to child obesity) and have a good time. Just realize that being a “back sliding Christian” is not a costume, it’s just the way you are. So, if you celebrate Halloween and you call yourself a Christian then maybe you need to check your beliefs and values.
I had no intention of taking my discussion of this to the level I have and in the future, if you take offense to anything I say. I openly welcome debate and I’d love to hear some devoted Christians try to validate the celebration of a Pagan tradition.
